Success and Happiness

2 min readSep 16, 2017

I was talking to a great mentor of mine earlier today about the correlation between success and happiness.

Dysfunctional belief: If you are successful, you will be happy.

The truth is that happiness comes from designing a life that works for you and only you. — Designing your life, Bill Burnett

It sounds much easier than what it really is. The proof is that in America 2/3 of workers are unhappy with their work and over 15% actually hate it. Pretty scare huh?

Most people seem to choose a career based on one of these three factors:

(1) a career that our parents wanted us to do (or them but they couldn’t)

(2) to a job where we can make money

(3) popular career (well seen by society: currently being an entrepreneur)

The side effect of choosing one of the above options is often times a severe middle age crisis. These individuals often wish they had to courage to sit down, reflect and understand better who they wanted to be sooner.

The exercise takes a lot of courage as you might realize you are far from what you should be doing. Always remember that is always better to do it now than never.

Discovering your true self is a unique experience. Trust me, I am doing it and I have never felt better. If you are looking to live in harmony, in peace with yourself, make up energized in the morning and feel like your life has meaning you should try it.

When you start your journey on becoming your true self you might realize that it is really hard. There is a lot of noise. Be patient and take your time. It won’t be an overnight exercise.

Later on, you might discover that what you want is not as ideal as you pictured but you might find something else on the way that might surprise you.

Once you find what you want to do, don’t stop there. Beat the fear. Put together a plan to get where you want. My tip: don’t do it alone. Bring the people that love you in and explain them your dream. They will help you!

Would love to hear your thoughts/personal experiences on this topic!
